She stood by her window, looking down at the flowers that grew in her backyard. "Why can't I be just as beautiful as a rose?", she asked herself. She went to her mothers bedroom, rummaged in her mothers makeup bag and pulled up a classic red lipstick. She painted her lips red and said, "Now I'm half as beautiful as a rose!". She looked in the mirror and smiled back to the reflection before she ran down the stairs. She ran to her best friend across the street, to show her how pretty she looked.

"You look like a clown!", her best friend laughed. She went back to her house with heavy steps. Her face looked down, and her hair hide her tears. She washed of the red lipstick and laid down on her bed to cry. Her mom came in and asked her what had happened. She answered her mom, and her mom told her, "A rose? That's not real beauty. A rose has thorns that can hurt, you don't wanna hurt anybody? And a rose eventually wither, real beauty never dies, it comes from the inside".
